

Florian Wellbrock earned his second gold medal at the opening leg of the World Aquatics Open Swimming World Cup in Somabay, Egypt as he brought Germany home for a comfortable win in today’s mixed 4x1500m race.
The Tokyo 2020 champion, who won yesterday’s men’s 10km race, teamed up with Paris 2024 silver medallist Oliver Klemet, Paris 2024 1500m freestyle bronze medallist Isabel Gose and Jeannette Spiwoks to come home first in 1:10.10.90.
Silver medal went to the Australian quartet of Moesha Johnson, Paris 2024 silver medallist and winner of the women’s 10km race, Chelsea Gubecka, Nicholas Sloman and Kyle Lee, who clocked 1:10:41.10.
The theme of European success at this global level was maintained as bronze medals were claimed by the Italian quartet of Giulia Gabbrielleschi, Paris 2024 bronze medallist Ginevra Taddeucci, European 10km champion Gregorio Paltrinieri and Luca De Tullio.
Two other European teams found their way into the top ten. France, calling upon men’s 10km bronze medallist Marc-Antoine Olivier, finished fifth, with The Netherlands finishing eighth, one place behind the neutral athletes quartet.
