The official information bulletin for the 2025 European Aquatics Open Water Swimming Championships is now available, providing detailed insights into the competition set to take place in Stari Grad, Croatia, from May 28 to 31.
The Championships promise to bring together Europe’s top open water swimmers for an exciting week of competition in the stunning Adriatic waters. Hosted by European Aquatics in collaboration with the Croatian Swimming Federation and the Local Organising Committee (LOC), the event promises to be one of the biggest open water competitions of the year.
The competition will feature events across various distances, with the classic 5km and 10km races returning, along with mixed relay events and a new 3km knockout race. Stari Grad’s crystal-clear waters and breathtaking coastline provide the perfect setting for high-level competition, with carefully designed courses that balance challenge and fairness while ensuring athlete safety.
The bulletin outlines key details for teams, including accreditation, training schedules, and competition procedures. Each national federation must register its athletes, coaches, and officials through the European Aquatics accreditation system, which will grant access to designated competition areas and official events.
Teams will also have access to dedicated training sessions, both in open water and at designated swimming pools, with pool training sessions available from May 26. To secure a training slot, teams must submit their requests in advance. The Championships will follow a structured daily schedule, ensuring optimal performance and recovery time for the athletes.
Travel and accommodation arrangements have been carefully planned to ensure a smooth experience for all delegations. Athletes and officials can choose between two official hotels – the Aminess Senses and Places Hvar by Valamar – with teams required to confirm their accommodation with a 50% deposit by April 7.
The LOC will provide transportation between official hotels and competition venues, with additional options such as speedboat transfers and airport shuttles from Split available at an additional cost. Federations are also advised to check visa requirements well in advance.
To ensure seamless logistics and operations, teams must adhere to key deadlines, including the April 7 deadline and the completion of rooming lists and travel forms by April 22. Additionally, teams requesting pool training must submit their forms by May 18.
The Championships will take place in Stari Grad Bay, a naturally sheltered location offering optimal racing conditions. The racecourse will be clearly marked, with dedicated safety boats and officials ensuring a fair and safe environment. Depending on the event category, athletes will compete in loops of varying lengths, navigating through the pristine waters of the Adriatic.
European Aquatics and the LOC are committed to delivering an unforgettable championship experience in Stari Grad, a historic coastal town renowned for its maritime heritage. The Championships not only promise world-class competition but also provide an opportunity for athletes, coaches, and fans to experience the beauty of Croatia’s Dalmatian coast.
